We would like to assume that nutritious foods are healthy and safe. But studies have shown that sometimes the healthiest of foods can be a breeding ground for bacteria.
When you buy your food at your local grocer try to stick to foods that are grown locally. If the food is not in season, chances are they are from Chile or somewhere else far away. CO2 emitted in transportation isn't the only thing to consider. Certain foods are more likely to attract strong pesticides or other harmful elements.
For some strange reason, scientists have discovered that peaches, strawberries, raspberries, apples and grapes are especially prone to bacteria. Know who the producers are and keep an eye on the news. If you want to be extra safe consider buying the items when they are grown organically. This just means that they are produced by a local farmer who adheres to the good old fashion farming methods.
