Why Compost?

I've been asked 'what's the point to composting?' It is true that whether or not you composte organic garbage will decompose unlike other materials that can be recycled. However, throwing organic waste into the garbage causes some other environmental problems. Consider the extra garbage bags or the increased amount of garbage trucks needed to carry away the extra weight. By increasing the amount of materials we recycle, and reducing the amount of garbage that'll end up in the dump, we will be doing our part in reducing the strain on our city's sanitation system.

Most cities have incentive programs that are aimed at encouraging home composting. Most of the programs work by offering city sanctioned composters at a reduced cost. Here is a short list of Canadian cities that have the incentive. Canada Compost Incentives
