Weather-Stripping Your Home

weather_proof

The cold air has come, at least for those of us in the northern hemisphere. With the furnace blasting you might have noticed a few drafts coming into your home. improperly installed, poor quality and faulty weather stripping can rob you of your very precious warm air. Here are some tip I was able to come up with.

1. Check for drafts around the doors and window. Weather strips at the base of the door are damaged easily so they should be checked.

2. Weather sealant around the windows can save you big on energy bills.

3. Check for a draft around the circuit breaker. This is an easy entrance for cold air.

4. Check the insulation in your attic. A poorly insulated attic is the main cause of wasted energy.

5. If you have the monetary means, replace those old windows for high-efficiency ones. They can keep the cold air out better as they have a special insulating gas injected between the two panes. They can also keep the hot heat out of the house in those blazing summer times. So really, they are energy-saver year round.
