Water Shortages Looming in the West and Calculating Your Canadian Water Footprint

A couple of items I came across today to follow up from my last post on water conservation:

This video is produced by Canadian video producer Info4YourLife and gives a brief outline of typical water usage for the average Canadian (which, incidentally, is 125,000 liters (33,000+ gallons) per year – second only to, you guessed it, the United States in water usage per capita).

To figure your own “water footprint” use the water footprint calculator at GoBlue.org.

For folks like me this short video from the Scripps Institute of Oceanography is a bit of an eye opener. It is interesting to me how we here in California and the American Southwest face an urgent water crisis and how little we hear about it in the mainstream press. It reminds me of that advertising slogan what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. So does a lot of water – as the once mighty Colorado River runs dry.
