Vegas Lights / Vegas Farms

Vertical Farm Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nevada city of lights, a great place to unwind and have fun. But that's not all Vegas has to offer. I had the chance to be there for a convention last month and was amazed at all of the lights. My first thought of course was, "how much energy does this city waste?" I mean there are literally millions of lights that are on 24 hours a day, and let's not mention the fact that all of the slot and gaming machines been switched to elecronics. Vegas also brings in literally tons of fresh water from the Colorado River to support this desert town.

But amidst all of the seemingly wasteful lights and water resource, Las Vegas is surprisingly green. How do they do it? Well their water processing plants are efficient and their power comes from renewable energy produced by the Hoover Dam. But they don't stop there; all of their exterior lights have been switched to compact florescent.

Well now it seems that Las Vegas will be known for its environmental horticultural. Vegas is planning on developing an indoor/multi-floored building that will help grow fresh food for the many visitors who go to Vegas to sample the good inexpensive dishes. This idea if deemed practical could be a solution for areas that need to import produce over long distances.

If a city like Vegas can be environmentally friendly, then all of the other American cities can definately afford to be greener. It's ridiculous.
