Mayor of Toronto David Miller has pledged to reduce water consumption by 15%. Miller believes the key to this goal lies in the replacment of old inefficient toilets.
Treating city water accounts for the majority of energy consumption for major cities; so logically, reducing our need for treated water will in effect reduce energy and the greenhouse gases they produce.
Cities face many problems when it come to water. A study on water treatment showed that for many cities pipes loose over 40% of its treated water before reaching your home. Municiple infrastructure should become a proiority as it will save energy used treating the water as well as money spent on water bills.
Most people complain to the local governments to repair potholes in their neighbourhood. We need to change our focus to more important matters.
Congratulations Toronto for taking the lead in Canada's quest to being a greener country.

I don't agree that environment issues are not as important as the social issues Toronto faces. It seems that those same societal problems exist throughout Canada right now; an unfortunate by-product of a booming economy. I think that by deciding to go green, Mayor Miller has sent the message that they are ready for change. According to his plan by conserving the 40% of water they lose in their cracked waterworks they'll be able to save on the energy required to treat the system, and then being able to pass on those savings to the consumers. Let's not forget all the jobs that will be created for such an undertaking.
I understand that there are more important issues out there; however, environment issues should not be ignored. With us constantly worrying about today's problems we ignore the future repercussions. In the long-run, Millers environment plans for Toronto should theoretically make it a less expensive place to live.

I think David Miller should worry about important things like tougher sentences for criminals. Put more money into healthcare and less money on bus system. The lights on the CN Tower are totally useless. Cut the polititions salarys to compensate for the Education system. Hike up minimum wage so that lower and middle class could survive in this city.
