A new Canadian study has found that over 25,000 deaths each year are caused by environmental hazards. The environmental burden of disease in Canada report, outlines that in Canada the burden on our health care system over environmentally related diseases cost $9.1 billion dollars annually. These diseases may include respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and congenital afflict, all preventable and all attributed to poor environment conditions.
Because we spend so much of our time indoors we are constantly breathing indoor pollution. Fresh paint smell, mold, pet hair, pollen, etc... are all hazardous to our health. So, invest in a good HEPA filter. Ion filters (washable metal plates) a fine but they will not remove the fine particles. Central-air HEPA systems are the best solution. Also, make sure that your furnace is well maintained with the vents cleaned annually and filters changed monthly. You can insert a high-quality filter in your furnace but chances are you will reduce its air-flow efficiency. If you are having your home renovated inform your contractor to only use solvent-free glue.
