I saw an interesting episode the other day of the Canadian hit TV show about construction, "Holmes on Homes." It was about a forced-air furnace that was so inefficient it was loosing 40% of its energy through leaks in the ducts. The episode was called "Drafty Ducting." The solution was simple enough, stop the leaks with tape and insulate the ducts where needed.
Something Holmes said that was interesting was that there were no rules saying that a contractor had to seal the ducts, and that most homes are not leak-free. So, to maximize the efficiency of your homes' furnace, tape the seams of the ducts and apply insulation where needed. Don't be fooled though, 'Duct Tape' is not for ducts. What you need is a special tape for ducts that is heat resistant. They are inexpensive and can be purchased at your local hardware store.
Don't forget to replace those filters once every three months. Read Post
