Scientists predict record low water levels for Lake Superior

Lake Superior Sunrise.jpg

It's never a good sign when the worlds third largest fresh water lake dries-up. But that's what scientists expect will happen to Lake Superior. They have predicted that levels will drop some 600 feet by next summer, therefore beating the current record of 599.3 feet that was set in 1933. The mass displacement of fresh water was one of the main causes for the Dust Bowl that contributed to mass displacement and famine during the Great Depression.

Scientists with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration can forecast lake levels 12 months in advance, using current hydrological conditions combined with long-term climate outlooks.

Does this mean that we should expect another Depression? If they are correct in predicting Lake Superior's water levels then we should expect some massive changes in farming and irrigation.
