More E-Coli Found In Canadian Lettuce

E_coli_bacteria.jpg
The E-Coli bacteria has been found in samples of Dole lettuce sold in Canada. Dole believes that more are affected and are now issuing a warning for all lettuce sold in Canada and parts of the United States.

"The voluntary recall affects all packages of Dole's Hearts Delight salad mix sold in the United States and Canada with a best if used by date of September 19, 2007 and a production code of A24924A or A24924B. Marty Ordman, a Dole spokesman, says the product was sold in Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes and in Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and neighbouring U-S states, starting the weekend before last."

No one has been hurt from the lettuce but it does bring to light the debate as to whether mass produced produce is healthy. We've been told that the chances are small that there would be any bacteria in brand named foods. However, it seems that in the last few years cases of e-coli bacteria in food is becoming more and more frequent. Therefore, is organic food safer for us?

No matter what, there needs to be more inspections in place at the production farms, transportation and any other venues that handle the food.

Oh my goodness! It's terrible, you know, because people are trying to eat healthy and spinach, green onions, organic apple juice and now bagged salad mix will be crossed off grocery lists everywhere.

    It's disgusting, dangerous and discouraging.
