After Halloween, pumpkins and leaves can be great material for your backyard composter. If you don't have a composter, you may have other options. Does your community have a leaf and pumpkin composting program available?
The City of Calgary has an Annual Leaf & Pumpkin Composting Program running until November 9/08. Residents can recycle their bagged leaves and pumpkins at drop-off locations or City Landfills throughout Calgary.
Then the city composts these leaves and pumpkins and the composted material enriches green spaces around Calgary. This program reduces greenhouse gas emissions being created when yard waste and other organic materials decompose in Calgary landfills.
