Lead Found in Lipstick

lipstick-girl hmApparently its not just toys made in China we need to be worried about; traces of lead are being found in lipstick.

Major department stores across the United States and Canada are recalling millions of dollars worth of childrens toys because they are found to contain unacceptable amounts of lead in its paint. Although there are health standards for childrens toys and consumer products in general, independent standard testing agencies have announced that they are finding above acceptable amounts of lead in lipstick.

"The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics said tests on 33 brand-name red lipsticks by the Bodycote Testing Group in Santa Fe Spring, California, found that 61 percent had detectable lead levels of 0.03 to 0.65 parts per million (ppm)." - Reuters

And we're not just talking about generic make-up. Lipstick that had above acceptable amounts of lead included brand name companies, including Cover Girl, L'Oreal and Christian Dior.
