How to Reduce Home Lighting Energy

Did you know lighting your home can be 5-20% of your household energy use? That's according to BC Hydro which has brilliant Green Your Home Guides & Tips online.

BC Hydro suggests "changing the amount of lighting you use, the types of lighting you have and the way you use light will help reduce the amount of energy you use to light your home."

Specifically, BC Hydro recommends these energy saving lighting tips:

1. "Turn Off Unnecessary Lights."

2. "Replace Incandescent Bulbs with Compact Fluorescent Lamps."

3. "Install Lighting Controls."

4. "Make the Most of Natural Light."

5. "Snuff Out Toxic Candles and Light Up Natural Alternatives."

6. "Adjust Lighting Levels for the Job."

7. "Switch to LED Holiday Lights."

8. "Use Energy-Efficient Lamps and Fixtures."
