How to Cover-up an Environmental Disaster

The 270,000 barrels of crude oil spilt over Alaska last year received little media attention; the dumping of 1,584 pounds of ammonia and 4,925 pounds of industrial solids into Lake Michigan every single day is fairly unknown. The singular company responsible for these and over 106 other oil-spills and more have all been kept in the dark (or at least in the dim-light). The culprits, British Petroleum (or BP as they're better known). How on earth could they have pulled this off without sounding alarm bells into the ears of every journalist in the western hemisphere? Well here's how they did it.

The first thing to do was to change their image. Instead of calling themselves British Petroleum, Beyond Petroleum sounds better. Next step, change the logo to something that looks more environment-friendly. By insulting the Green Party of Canada (environmentally friendly) they chose something similar to help ease their image.

The next step for them was to create and invest in designing solar-panels and wind-energy technology. Becoming the leading producer or solar-panels BP looks like they have nothing at all to do with oil, but don't be fooled, they are still the top industrial polluters in the United States.

BP will only change their environmental practises when they are forced to. If they want to keep their image as a green company then they need to stop being polluters. Boycott BP and write letters, they need to know that they are not going to get away with destroying our planet with "flowers in their hair."
