Hot-Water Thermostat Setting

water_heater.jpg I just wanted to make a correction on what I wrote about turning down the setting on you thermostats hot-water heater. Check it out Here. Though it's true that lowering the temperature will save you on energy costs, keep in mind that it has to be set to at least 50°C or 122°F to kill off any bacteria that may be festering in the heater. Usually the lowest setting is 110°F keep it slightly above that to be safe and bacteria free. Keep the temperature low but not too low.

If you are planning on doing renovations invest in a tankless/instant water-heater. They eliminate the need in keeping a supply of water constantly being heated by generating the hot water instantly when you need it.

Two questions - 1) How do you know if your hot water tank heaters are working properly? 2) If there are two electric heaters, should the bottom one be set at a higher temperature?
