Most of us have heard by now about the benefits of eating seasonally and locally. Not only are you guaranteed the freshest ingredients, but you will be able to cut down on the distance your food travels. This has clear benefits for air quality and reduces fossil-fuel usage.
That's all well and good, but how do you know what's in season where you live? Popular food and cooking website Epicurious now has a Seasonal Ingredient Map to answer just that question. This map, though only covering the United States, allows you to choose your state and the month you're curious about. It also features descriptions of every ingredient and recipe ideas. Now, not only will you know that Michigan's eggplants are in season July through September - you'll know what to make with them!
