Green Hotel - or Just a Greenwash...

A
When staying in most hotels and motels these days, you’re likely to find that little placard in your room asking you to save water and hang up your towels for reuse if your staying in the room for more than one night. That not only makes “green” sense but also helps the financial bottom line - just one of many examples of how environmental stewardship makes economic sense as well.

But is that all it takes to make a hotel, motel or resort “green”? What are the criteria for eco-friendly lodging?

A report today in the Environmental News Network shows how EcoRooms & EcoSuites, an online directory of environmentally focused hotels, motels, resorts and B&B, is helping to define consistent green standards for the hospitality industry through the rigorous “Significant 7” set of criteria.

EcoRooms & EcoSuites is developing their list of hotels in the USA and throughout the world (“coming soon”). They're just getting underway, so the list isn’t too extensive at the moment. But armed with their set of criteria, you’ll know whether an establishment’s claims of eco-friendliness is truly green or just greenwash.

Remember to hang up your towels!
