Electric Car Conversion

Electric Conversion Kit.jpg

Do you have an old car lying around that is on its way to the junkyard? You probably thought about selling it to someone for a buck just to have it taken away. Well there are companies out there who specialize in converting cars from gas to electric. Electric Vehicle Kits (or just EV Kits) are available to convert a car to run on batteries. Its a bit expensive but I do know that some provinces and states offer rebates to those who wish to make the switch. If you are like me and just need a car to putter around town, than going electric may be an option.

Could I make a battery kit out of 28 volt lithium ion rechargeable batteries from electric drills. How many would I need to get 100 miles at 55 miles per hour/ If I put 5 in series that would be 140 volts If this could give me 20 miles then adding 5 sets would give me 100 miles. Is there a problem with putting batteries in series or parallel, Is there a limit to how many I can put together?

Re the 28v drill battery idea

yes they can be used, but mostly on electric dragster, you can find a great example on Jesse James "Monster Garage" TV show where the built a 62 chevy Impala with a seven hundred volt battery pack of cordless drills batteries. But I think after 3-4 runs on the drag strip, the batteries were beginning to fade... but that car was a 2 electric motor/automatic transmission combo with drag strip Zilla contollers.
    Good luck Simon
