"Economies Supercede Environment"

What has two days of Whitehouse deliberating conclude? Every country must decide for themselves what they can afford to do economically to help curb global warming. The United States promises to put together funds that will be made available to third world countries who want to buy sustainable technology (Made in America).

Seems like a cop-out. I mean economically we are not hurting in the US or Canada. If we can afford to invest in a space program that spend billions of taxpayers money on probes to mars than we can afford the "economic" imposition of building renewable-energy facilities.

The Federal Government of Canada realized today that they overtaxed us, creating a near $14 Billion surplus. Couldn't some of that money be used to advance Canada's Retrofit program or provide a larger tax break for purchasers of hybrid vehicles? There are so many things that could be done but aren't.

    Right on Jyle.

Bush's rhetoric may be changing (a little), but he refuses to take any real action on global warming. As an American who has endured almost two full terms of this president, I really can't believe anything he says, especially about the environment. The world is looking to the US - the world's largest emitter of Co2 - to lead the way. I'm afraid the world will have to wait until at least 2009 for that to happen.

And speaking of money to fund renewable energy projects; the United States is spending 12 billion dollars every MONTH on the war in Iraq. What a tragedy.
