Ban Plastic Bags!

Plastic Pollution

Seeing plastic bags in trees, along fences, and just blowing around town has become common. It is estimated that over 1 trillion plastic bags go to the landfill every year. San Francisco has outlawed their use and many other American cities are following their lead. My family has been using reusable bags for about a month now and we think they are fantastic! "Green" thinking does not come naturally to most people so, let's look at some of the reasons why making the switch is a good idea:

If your vehicle doesn't have those hooks in the trunk (the ones that hold your groceries together) you will probably find your food all over the place by the time you get home.
You will save money by not having to buy bags from places like The Real Canadian Superstore.
The reusable bags are not going to rip and spill your groceries. If they do, you usually can take them back to where you bought them and have them replaced for free (See? Another perk!).
Litter discourages tourism.
Less garbage means less tax money spent on its removal. Cities like Calgary are planning to charge for every extra bag that is taken to the dump (most houses have a limit of two per week). So, if you use less of your valuable garbage space on plastic bags you will have more money saved for that next vacation!

By using reusable bags you will be sending the message that our environment is a priority, so together let's start a new trend!
