I've developed a home disaster paranoia over the past few years. I know of a few times, friends of mine came home from their vacations to find their house flooded by a burst pipe. Not exactly what you want to see after spending a week on the beach trying to justify to yourself that you need to take this time off. So here's a tip to avoid those disasters; before leaving for that long vacation, shut-off the water supply to your house. If you don't know how to shut it off find out because you always want to be prepared to turn it off quickly in case of an emergency. There is no harm in shutting off the water for a few days, nothing will get damaged. You can then rest easy at the beach knowing that your home is water disaster free.
