It seems that there is another reason for Canadians to only buy fresh/organic produce. There is a public advisory out to warn people of a possible contamination of shigella bacteria in baby carrots sold in Canada.
"People in Canada are being warned not to eat a brand of baby carrots from Mexico because the product may be contaminated with shigella bacteria.
The item, Los Angeles Salad Company Genuine Sweet Baby Carrots, was sold in 672-gram plastic bags with sell-by dates up to and including Aug. 13 of this year, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says.
The product was sold in Costco stores in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Newfoundland, the agency says."
For more information on the recall contact the Costco you purchased the carrots from.
Eating organic foods that were grown close to your home ensures that little damage is done to the environment and the produce during transportation. Organic foods are a little more expensive but it encourages local farming that will in turn help your community.
