76% of Voters Want Tough Emission Laws?

20061106_greenhouse.jpg

in an article written back in July of 2002, pollers suggested that 76 percent of voters wanted tougher greenhouse gas cuts on industries. The only question I have is, why the heck is it taking so long to get anything substantial accomplished if so many people are pro-environment?

Some 76 percent of those surveyed said the U.S. government should set standards requiring power plants, oil refineries and other industries to cut greenhouse gas emissions. Another 16 percent said they supported a voluntary approach, while 8 percent said they were undecided.

In a talk show I happened to be watching suggested that although people will vocally support environmental causes, our actions prove that we are still very wastfull. we want industries to cut back on their greenhouse gas emissions but at the same time, we'll complain if our electricity bill goes up to support windmill projects. Some people will even complain that solar panels are not aesthetically pleasing.

If we want industries to cut back on their carbon emissions we need to realise that that will take sacrifice on our part too. Donate to your electric company to support windfarms, switch to lower energy consuming appliances, recycle, etc... there is so much we can do to put our money where are mouths are. Lets not wait another 6 years before doing anything.
